The YouTube Summertime Dip
Finally, the YouTube video I needed to see. The one that confirmed what I have quietly suspected for some time—there is indeed a summer dip. A seasonal slow-down in views, engagement, and revenue. What a relief to know it is not just me.
Still, it is frustrating. I have shared quite a bit of new content in recent weeks and found myself pulling my hair wondering—where are the views? Where are the likes, the comments, the subscribes? Why does my projected monthly revenue seem to shrink with each passing day?
Meanwhile, I have audio files ready to go for full-length audiobook, complete and waiting to be edited and uploaded. But I have asked myself—do I dare post it now when viewership is so low?
To regain some momentum, I have turned to YouTube promotions to gain subscribers and increase viewership on select video. So far, so good. I am gaining new subscribers for under 70 cents each, which, when compared to the cost of producing an audiobook, is a very cost-effective alternative. It may not replace the natural boost that comes from releasing a new video, but it helps.
One suggestion from that timely YouTube video I cited earlier was to engage more deeply with one’s existing audience. So, I am giving it a go—posing question here, running a poll there—small things, but affordable means of keeping my YouTube community connected while they wait for the next video to drop.
Having read this far, I hope you’ll visit me on my YouTube channel and connect with me to help me overcome the summer doldrums. And do not forget to subscribe.
